Dada movement and it's connection to street art
What is the dada movement?
The dada movement was an artistic and literary movement that began in Zürich, Switzerland during the 20th century. It arose as a reaction to World War I and the nationalism that many thought had led to the war. Influenced by other movements such as Cubism, Futurism, Constructivism, and Expressionism.
Dada was the first conceptual art movement where the focus of the artists was not on crafting "aesthetically pleasing" objects but on making works that often generate difficult questions about society, the role of the artist, and the purpose of art.
Marcel Duchamp, also known as the first artist who made a readymade when he submitted a urinal as a contribution to the Society of Independent Artistic Exhibition in New York, in April year 1917. This lead to an revolution in art. It then became ready made which means taking things that are already there but adding something or changing something and then calling it art.
How is the Dada Movement linked to Ready Made?
As I mentioned before ready made is taking things that are already there but adding something or changing something and then calling it art. And dada is making works that often generate difficult questions about society, the role of the artist, and the purpose of art.
The connection between the dada movement and ready made is the fact that they're both pieces of art that go through changes. Meaning that the original has been changed.
